Tori Spelling's book has been heavily criticized by readers. The actress recently wrote a new autobiographical book, "Spelling It Like It Is", with which she went on a promotional tour. The book describes many aspects of Spelling's personal life, and it also contains episodes that concern Katie Holmes. Tori criticized Holmes' vocal data and presented her as a girl who was once cute and shy, now turned into a "plastic robot."

Readers did not appreciate such comparisons and sent a flurry of criticism on Tori; she had to listen to unflattering opinions during her scheduled meetings with readers. As a result, the actress received severe stress and was forced to spend some time in the hospital.

"Spelling It Like It Is" is Spelling's fourth book of memoirs. The first, with the name "STORI Telling" Tori released in 2008. This book was ranked number one on The New York Times’s bestseller list and was named one of the best celebrity autobiographical books of 2009. The first success was an occasion to work on new books.
