Over the past year, the optimism of Russians grew by 5%. If at the beginning of 2016, 63% of respondents believed in the bright future of their children, then a year later, 68% of citizens of the Russian Federation believe in the best living conditions for future generations.

Students and seniors believe in the future

Sociologists of the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation conducted a survey in which they asked different social groups of Russians to talk about their vision of the future and how to achieve material well-being.

According to the data received, the highest confidence in the long run was found by students and pensioners. Young people who have not completed higher education (84%) and pensioners over 65 years of age (71%) believe in the future.

The head of the survey, Vice-rector of the Federal University Alexey Zubets, is convinced that the confidence of Russians in the bright future did not appear from scratch. According to the sociologist, the incomes of citizens over the past 15 years have actually grown. The company is committed to quality growth and achieving its goals. People are willing to study and work hard to improve their quality of life.

Foreigners are not sure about the future

But foreigners are far from so optimistic. It would seem, who but not them, the inhabitants of decades of decaying in the conditions of absolute domestic comfort of the West, with hope to look to the future? But no.

According to surveys conducted by the Gallup Organization (authoritative sociological service of the United States), in the past 2016, only 54% of Americans were optimistic that their children would live better. Although in 2011, the figures were even lower: five years ago, only 44% of US citizens differed in their belief in the future.

By the way, there are even less optimists in Western Europe: from year to year Europeans lose confidence in the strong and happy future of their youth.

Russians know how to live better

As specific tools that will help improve wealth, Russians choose:

• good education (almost 70%);

• creative work (65%);

• own business projects (40%);

• fight against poverty (37%).

Besides, mobility became another way to improve living standards. People are ready to leave for large cities, where there is an opportunity to get a well-paid job, attend cultural institutions, and study. But not more than 8% of respondents intend to send their children abroad, with a view to improving their lives.

Where do all these confident future people live? This is the question that arose after we got acquainted with the results of the opinion poll. According to the data obtained, optimists live in large industrial cities, where the oil and chemical industries are actively developing. Who would doubt that…

The optimism of the inhabitants of Novosibirsk, Cherepovets and Sterlitamak (about 80% of the respondents) is explained by stable salaries, a strengthening ruble and rising oil prices. But the residents of Bryansk, Arkhangelsk, Cheboksary assess distant prospects almost like Americans. Only 57% of respondents are confident in the future.
